MBA in Healthcare Management is a 2-year full-time post-graduate course, the eligibility of which is a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with an aggregate score of 50% marks from a recognized university. Over a third of all health care managers worked for general medical and surgical hospitals in 2011, where average pay was $49.06 per hour or $102,040 per year. Over 9 percent worked as practice managers in doctors' offices to make an average $45.08 per hour or $93,770 per year. Healthcare as a sector in India is highly underpenetrated. But what is more interesting, is that most of the healthcare facility which is available in this country, is highly mismanaged. I think, in terms of scope, it may not really pick up in the next 5 years. Mostly doctors who own the facilities management it. But if I were the regulator or government, I would want the profession of medicine and the management of hospitals to be two different division. Healthcare being a basic need (should be a fundamental right between), I think it should not only be cost efficient but should also be highly professional and systematic. Coming back to MBA. Managing a hospital requires one to know the basics of operations of a hospital (I mean how a hospital or medical facility works and not the operation done by doctors). And if you already know that, I would recommend you to take up a General management degree ie. A basic PGDM or MBA. Then better find a job at the various multispecialty hospitals. Doing a dedicated course would not be advisable and wise.
