Firstly, check whether you are eligible to apply to the branch in that college, then advance your research sky the college. Search for the faculty in the department and different lab facilities, etc. You can check the placement statistics too, but not necessarily. Because if you good in your field you'll get placed anyways. Check how many opportunities that college will open to you and how well connected that college is with other academic institutions, etc. If you particular about living conditions, etc. then find out about hostel and mess facilities too though they are really trivial contributing factors. I would suggest starting with rankings of the college. Check the rankings on various trusted sources online but don't use it as absolute selection criteria.
Firstly look for the old IITs, then top 3 NITs and BITS and other tier-1 colleges.
While comparing these colleges take into consideration the following factors-
1. Brand value - This is really important. The name of the college you graduated from will stay with you for the rest of your life. It will also play a vital role while going for future studies.
