Dear aspirant, As a Secondary School teacher you will be working in high schools teaching students of classes 8 to 10. You will be handling courses in one or two subjects, preparing the students to appear for public examinations and to take up higher secondary education. 1. You may take a BA/B.Sc/B.Com degree in the subject you choose. This is usually of 3 year duration and is available in most universities and affiliated colleges in the country. 2. In order to be eligible to take up a career as a Secondary School teacher you need to qualify as a Bachelor of Education with your subject of choice taken up as the specialisation. This is usually a 2 year course which includes compulsory teaching practice and can be taken up after earning a Bachelors or Masters degree in the subject. 3. In order to take up a teaching career in Government institutions in India you may have to qualify in Teacher Eligibility Tests which are conducted both at central level CTET and at State level (STET). Some private schools may also use these qualifications as their employment criteria. 4. Qualifying for an entrance exam is the first step towards becoming a teacher. But the main journey gets start while pursuing the course or teaching. Candidates can also further pursue a Doctorate programme to become a Professor at Universities. Hope it helps.

To become a secondary school teacher, you need to finish your 10+2+3 in any subject. Your undergraduate subject could be any one in the field of arts/humanities or sciences. Post your graduation, you need to pursue your Masters opting for a specialisation in your UG subject. For example, if you pursued B.Sc in Maths, you can do an M.Sc in operational research. Once you're done with your Masters, you need to complete a b.Ed program. Depending on your preference, you may opt for a full time or a correspondence (distance learning) option for your B.Ed. These three qualifications deem you fir to become a secondary school teacher. The candidate can pursue B.Ed after undergraduate degree also and then do a Masters. The eventual career path you will assume will that be of a Trained Graduate Teacher or a TGT. The career path is highly respected and enriching.

1) B.P.ED. (Bachelor of Physical Education)- It is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on Physical Education. The eligibility is minimum 50% in 10+2 with any stream. Course duration is 3 years. 2) B.Ed (Bachelor of Education)- You can pursue B.Ed after your graduation in any field. The eligibility is minimum 50% in your graduation. You can also pursue M.Ed. after this course to improve your professional opportunities. Course duration is 2 years.

Secondary school teaching requires Bachelors in Education, a 2-year degree program having Bachelor's degree in Arts or science stream (BA or B.Sc) as a minimum qualification. Apart from this, it is strongly recommended to do other courses for an added advantage to teach higher classes. One can pursue PGT and TGT courses after passing Master's degree. One can also do vocational courses to get benefits in a specific field. Eligibility tests needed to qualify for teaching: As per Right to Education Act norms, it has become mandatory to pass teacher eligibility tests to join in a school as a teacher. The objective behind this is to provide quality schooling and trained staff to bring excellence in academics for the students. TET (Teacher Eligibility Test): Every state conducts its own TET exam at the primary and secondary levels of teaching. These tests are conducted by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) after passing D.Ed or B.Ed. One can clear this test within a period of 5 years from the time the test is first notified. CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test): To qualify for central government or private schools, one has to clear CTET exams. These tests were conducted by NCTE but in 2011, these tests were conducted by CBSE board for the first time. Both CTET and TET exams are conducted in two parts: one is for those who want to become a teacher to teach classes I to V and the other for classes VI to VIII. Candidates who want to teach in elementary and senior schools need to clear both the tests. One should score more than 60% to qualify the exam as per NCTE norms. Hope this helps.

Hi, For a Secondary School Teacher, the required qualifications are 10 +2+ 3 year graduation degree + B.Ed (Bachelor in education). From 2017 B.Ed is a 2-year program. Afetr completing B.Ed, you have to give TET Exam (Teacher Eligibility Test). This exam is conducted by the government. If you pass this exam, you are eligible for the post of Secondary School Teacher. This is my personal experience.

Hello, Teaching is a great career or volunteering option, especially in a country like India where education is the basic necessity for growth and modernization. The demand is high for qualified instructors at all levels. If you have an interest in teaching and are willing to dedicate yourself to others, this track might be a great fit for you. 1. To become kindergarden teacher, you should at least be a 12th pass out with NTT/ courses in early years. Qualification higher than this are always welcome. 2. To become primary teacher, you should be preferrably graduate with NTT/ B.Ed. 3. In order to become a high school level teacher, you need to atleast be at least graduate with a B.Ed degree and you should have cleared CTET or STET to be able to teach till grade 8.9 and above grade don't require you to clear these papers but B.Ed and graduation. 4. In order to become a secondary level teacher you should be post graduate with B.Ed. The IG curriculum and IGSC curriculum prefer someone who has schooled from the same curriculum. They accept the above given criteria but they would offer classes below your eligibility. E.g. if you are eligible for PGT level (senior secondary) then they will give you classes below grade 10.
