What are the job prospects in India as well as overseas for Civil Engineering?

Hi, Civil Engineers can find job in Government departments, private and public sector industries, research and teaching institutions etc. Job opportunities for civil engineers are expected to increase as fast as the average for all jobs, although the construction industry is vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy. Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones. After doing B.Tech, one can look for jobs in road projects, building work, consultancy firms, quality testing laboratories or housing societies. The experts say there is a high demand for experienced civil engineers in developed countries. Civil engineers are employed in all the major construction projects carried out by the state or central government, the railways, private construction companies, military, engineering services, consultancy services etc. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching or they can open their own independent consultancy services. Civil Engineering is a great branch but over the years, it's popularity has been decreasing. Even in reputed colleges like IITs and NITs Civil Engineering has much lower placements than other branches. But if you are genuinely interested in the branch you can surely get a job. Start by getting into one other premier institutions like IITs and NITs. Then study hard and maintain a great CGPA and you surely will get a good job. Career opportunities in Design field are in following sectors - 1) Structural engineering - related to design of buildings (industrial and residential) 2) Transportation engineering - related design of roads, bridges, tunnels 3) Infrastructure engineering- related to design of water tanks, sewage pipes, road transit systems, dams, canals 4) Marine engineering - related to design of docks, harbors and other structures inside sea for oil industries 5) Geo technical engineering: designing retaining walls, diaphragm walls to retain soil Career opportunities in planning field are in following sectors- 1) Infrastructure planning - planning the infrastructures which is talked about earlier. 2) Town planning - planning of a specific area might be a city or a private township If interested in research, 1) GIS engineering (Geographic information system). It deals with collecting and analysing geographic data and using it for remote sensing, crime mapping, minerals searching etc.

The civil engineering stream has a vast historic scenario and is probably the oldest branch. Civil engineering finds a very good scope and rich countries like Dubai, USA, China where they spent a lot on infrastructure. It is a true fact that there will be no end to construction till there is human life but there is something which makes civil different from other branches. Apart from all the skills and achievements, one needs a good network also. CIVIL engineers may need a good network and background for a good start. There are many companies in India which provide job to civil engineers at a good package but comparatively percentage is less. In a global level, one may find a bright career in infra oriented countries but it is very hard to be a part of it. They mostly prefer people of their own country. When may find a good government job in highway or airport authority by passing few exams. Also, one may also setup his or her own industry related equipment which has some knowledge of marketing and business.

The scope of civil engineering is very good in India but you have to be patient enough for it because it will need time and practical experience for you to come up to a level for high grant. It is the branch if engineering which deals with the design, structure, and development of infrastructure, Construction, Urbanization, for development of structure that will help to boost the development of the nation. It has a good scope as you will be responsible for creating design and structure which will further be used for further process like road, bridges, buildings, towers, housing society, complexes, etc. with hands on experience in the field.
