What is the importance of doing Diploma after 10th? Is it difficult to qualify the lateral entry exam for B.Tech after 10th?

After pursuing Diploma, you will have more practical knowledge and experience as compared to B.Tech students but since lateral entry seats are very few so you may face difficulty in getting admission in good colleges. Also with Diploma, you can get jobs in various PSUs. So, pursuing Diploma is also good but if you can go for class 12th and then B.Tech that will also be same.
