What is the marking scheme of NEST 2024?

<p>The Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) of Mumbai University and the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, jointly administer the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST). There will be 200 total marks available for the questions. There will be four divisions in total, including topics like biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. The following lists the marking scheme</p><p>+2.5 for each correct answer (MCQs)</p><p>+4 for each correct answer (MSQs)</p><p>-1 for each incorrect answer (MCQs)</p><p>0 for incorrect answer in MSQs and unattempted questions</p><p>Question Paper will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Multiple Select Questions (MSQ).</p>

<p data-sourcepos="1:1-1:22">The marking scheme for NEST 2024 follows a differential marking system:</p><ul data-sourcepos="3:1-3:78"><li data-sourcepos="3:1-3:78">Correct Answer: Each correct answer in the MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) sections is awarded 3 marks.</li><li data-sourcepos="4:1-4:104">Incorrect Answer: There is a penalty of 1 mark for every incorrect answer in the MCQ sections.</li><li data-sourcepos="5:1-6:0">Not Attempted: No marks are deducted for questions left unanswered in the MCQ sections.</li></ul><p data-sourcepos="7:1-7:42">Breakdown for marking scheme:</p><ul><li data-sourcepos="7:1-7:42">Sections: NEST 2024 has four sections - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.</li><li data-sourcepos="10:1-10:39">Number of questions: Each section has 20 questions (17 MCQs and 3 MSQs). However, only the MCQs contribute to the final score.</li><li data-sourcepos="11:1-11:115">Marks per MCQ: As mentioned earlier, each correct MCQ is worth 3 marks and each incorrect MCQ deducts 1 mark.</li><li data-sourcepos="12:1-12:200">MSQs (Multiple Select Questions): There are 3 MSQs in each section, but these questions are not included in the final score calculation. There's no negative marking for incorrect answers in MSQs.</li></ul>

<p dir="ltr" role="presentation">All four sections will have 17 questions each (12 MCQ &amp; 5 MSQ).&nbsp;There is a differential marking scheme in the NEST exam. Each MCQ will carry 2.5 marks for each correct answer and a negative mark for each wrong answer. While MSQs will carry four marks and there is no negative marking for each wrong answer.&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr" role="presentation">Overall there will be 68 questions and 200 marks will be allotted to it. Applicants are advised to attempt questions from all four sections as their score from the top 3 sections will be considered for their qualification.&nbsp;</p>
