A great logo design should have following things :
    1. Right combination of color, every color has its meaning. Like sbi uses blue color in their logo. Blue means trust. Food companies uses red or yellow logo to represent hotness or tastiness. So color is very important.
    2. It should have a hidden meaning. There is no use of logo if it is not giving any meaning. Like adidas, it has 3 rectanges in continuous that represents like mountains and their products can easily help you to climb mountains or to achieve your big dreams.
    3. Logo should not have unwanted things. Keep it simple and clear. Don't try to add many things in a logo.

Great logo design comes frombothgreat ideas and great execution. Many people like to think of themselves as designers (or believe they don't really need a designer) because they have Photoshop (or even worse, PowerPoint), just like everyone thinks they're a photographer because they have a DSLR camera. Best of luck!
