Which college should be preferred among SRM Chennai and Thapar University for B.Tech in CSE?

If you want to get into the Thapar University they will count your JEE marks and the cutoff for CSE may rise up to 250 marks and SRM conducts its own test and in terms of placement, actually, I have graduated from Thapar in civil engineering they have very less placement as compared to SRM University.

I graduated in 2014 and I have a pretty good knowledge about both Thapar and SRM. I did not graduate from any one of these colleges so I will give you an unbiased opinion. Thapar is way better than SRM for CSE. The placements are very good.
But, the main thing about Thapar is the brand name. It is a very old and known brand name. I have a few people in my MBA course from Thapar and they got preference during placements because of the Thapar brand attached to them.
In the long term, the brand matters a lot and not just infra and placements. So, I would definitely go for Thapar. But the thing is, getting into Thapar is more difficult than...more -

TIET (Thapar Institute) generally has one of the strongest private-university placement records in North India. For BTech, top branches like CSE, COE, ENC see high placement rates, with many students getting multiple offers. Companies like Microsoft, Adobe, Deloitte, and Zscaler hire regularly, and internships are solid too.
If you're comparing private universities, Thapar's placement ecosystem is definitely above average, mainly because of its industry ties and project-driven culture.
