Which course should I pursue, M.Ed or MA in education? What is the difference?
-
MA means Master of Arts degree, it is a post graduate degree in any arts subject like history, civics, economics, any language, music or dance.
M.Ed means Master of Education.
For M.Ed you first need to pursue B.Ed.
For B.Ed degree graduation is must in any subject. After graduation anybody is eligible for B.Ed entrance. If you clear this test then you can get admission in any education college.
B.Ed is 1 year course if done through regular mode and is of 2 years through correspondence.
B.Ed is necessary for teaching jobs. Although M.Ed is not necessary for teaching but this degree gives better chances in teaching profession. -
Hi,
MA in Education is a regular masters course, whereas M.Ed is a professional course.
MA in Education-
People who choose to pursue a Master of Arts in Education are not practising teachers. It is for those who are interested in learning about education in general.
M.Ed- Master of Education-
It is for practising teachers for career growth/to move up the pay scale/
to become a vice principal/to get into the school administration department.
Thanks! -
Masters in Teaching:
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) emphasizes mainly on the progression of your teaching career. This is the degree most often pursued by people who want hands-on teaching experience and are seeking to work directly with students. The MAT focuses heavily on advanced coursework in a specific subject to hone your expertise. Coursework for the MAT also focuses on pedagogical theory and implementation. Essentially, the MAT will teach you how to be a teacher: methodology, stylistic approach, etc. Oftentimes, the Master of Arts in Teaching consists of hands-on experience that places you in a classroom as a student teach...more -

There is no alternate way to pursue M.Ed other than B.Ed.

However, today B.Ed itself has lost its significance as it used to have owing to lesser or no vacancy and also a provision of Teachers eligibility test valid for 2 years. This route is losing preference and BTC route has evolved owing to more va...more -

7 years agoHello,
These two courses appear to be same but there is a vast difference. Master of Education or M.Ed. can be done after B.Ed. only. It teaches skills of teaching to the prospective teacher. On the other hand, Master of Arts or M.A. in education is a different ball game. M.A. in education can be done provided one has graduation in any subject. It's actually about philosophy of education. Different aspects of education, its gamut, its scope, its applicability, entire sphere of education is covered in this post-graduation. It does not teach skills of teaching but enhances knowledge about different aspects of education. Thus we can see th...more
