The future seems uncertain but one has to be optimistic. Today we talk about artificial intelligence, neural networks 4G/5G and nanotechnology but when you reach at some point in future, new technologies may emerge. One may be forced to define the time span of the term 'future'.
Mechanical Engineering is called the evergreen branch but streams in demand might include Electronics a Communication, Instrumentation, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics and so on. It will not be surprising if in future, some colleges offer a B.Tech course in Nano Electronics or Robotics.
