Both the courses are in demand. Having a biotechnology degree opens up many more doors, in various fields like industrial processes, management jobs while microbiology jobs are more research oriented. You also have an option of doing an MBA in Biotechnology, which a new and emerging field of work. The job market while not absolutely lucrative is growing with the biotechnology sector on the increase in India. There are jobs in the agricultural, pharmaceuticals, medical and various other fields, making it a very flexible subject. Also, there are many independent biotechnology start up companies that promise a good future. After a few yea

B.Sc in microbiology would favour your career more. As after Master's degree, you can go for government jobs. B.Sc Biotechnology is, on the other hand, not a bad subject but its a narrow field and requires time to get settled.

    Hi,
Both the streams have their own scope and it depends on your interest that which stream you choose. But, I will suggest you B.Sc Biotechnology, because it has more scope than microbiology. Microbiology is a part of biotechnology only. So, you should opt for B.Sc Biotechnology.

In simple words, in India, the scope of Microbiology is broad as compared to Biotechnology. Biotechnology is an older field while Microbiology is a newer field, this is the reason Biotechnology is preferred but microbiology has a bright future. The syllabus/subjects is/are common or same as Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Immunology, etc.
