Both the streams are best in their own way. Every streams has pros and cons. So, you better decide your stream on your interest and in which you score better. Both streams had scope in future.

Both biotech and microbiology are allied fields of life sciences with different specialisations. B.Sc microbiology makes one eligible for almost all subject specialisation in M.Sc whereas biotech will be eligible for few fields in M.Sc . If higher studies is on your mind B.Sc microbiology would be better comparatively just for the avenues it open further.

    Hi,
In simple words, in India, the scope of Microbiology is broad as compared to Biotechnology. Biotechnology is an older field while Microbiology is a newer field, this is the reason Biotechnology is preferred but microbiology has a bright future. The syllabus/subjects is/are common or same as Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Immunology, etc.

Jaipur National University offers both B.Sc. in biotechnology and B.Sc. in microbiology:
B.Sc. (Hons.). Biotechnology is a three-year degree programme. In the first two semesters, the focus is on the core subjects of biotechnology to ensure a good grounding in the fundamental concepts. Specialisation is offered in the second and third year. The course contents cover all aspects of the applied and core biotechnology including molecular biology, genetic engineering, plant and animal tissue culture, bioprocess technology, advanced microbial technology, intellectual property rights and patents, industry relations and entrepreneurship, etc.
    ...more
  • Yes, of course they have scope in future. B.Sc. Microbiology is a good scope as the name suggests it is the study of microbes without whom life is not possible. You will also get one subject as biotechnology, biochemistry in microbiology itself. Microbiology has ample of opportunities and better placement.
