    Hello,
The Ph.D. interview is primarily done to gain insight into the student's plans for their study throughout the admissions process. The student proves his interest in the topic and guarantees that his research will be original when he stands before the interview panel with an abstract and a research proposal. If the board accepts these responses, the applicant is admitted to the Ph.D programme.

Hi there, the interview conducted at the time of admission for the Ph.D. students is basically done to have an insight of what the student intends to do during research. The student faces the interview board with an abstract and a research proposal and confirms his interest in the subject and assures that his research will be innovative. If the board finds these answers satisfactory the aspirant is given admission in Ph.D.

They also see your motivation for research and future goals. They don't expect you to know everything but want to check how serious and prepared you are.
