The candidates need to qualify for both papers that are paper 1 and paper 2 in order to be eligible to qualify for the UGC NET exam. The candidates have to score a minimum of 40 per cent marks (Unreserved category) and 35 per cent of marks to qualify for the UGC NET exam. However, among the candidates crossing the minimum qualifying marks, the top 6 per cent of the candidates will be made qualified for the Assistant Professor.

The minimum qualifying marks for the UGC NET exam for the General category is 40% in Paper 1 and 2. However, securing the minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee qualification. The UGC NET cut off is determined based on factors such as the number of candidates who appeared in the exam, the difficulty level of the question paper, and previous year cut off trends. The cut off marks are subject and category specific, and candidates need to score equal to or more than the cut off marks to be declared as qualified.
