10.5 Let I1 and I2 be the intensity of the two light waves. Their resultant intensity can be obtained as :

I' = I1+I2+2I1I2 cos?? , where ?= Phase difference between two waves

For monochromatic light waves, I1=I2 . Hence

I' = I1+I1 + 2 I12 cos?? = 2 I1+2I1cos??

We know, phase difference ? = 2?? * path difference
