If you are interested in pursuing CSE/IT from NIT Srinagar, keep following things in mind:
1. No shortage in attendance as such. CSE/Students are never harassed for the shortage. On the other hand, ECE guys have to put in classes.
2. CSE/IT has good placement in terms of students meeting eligibility criteria of various companies that visit here. ECE placement is average for 2013-2014 batch.
3. Permanent faculty is good in CSE/IT but not a very big number. Don't expect them to spoon feed you. ECE has a larger pool of faculty and they are good.
4. Awesome and beautiful place if you are a nature lover. Life is slower here, not a metropolis. No malls or cinema halls around.
5. You can play sports or go for a stroll on the banks of Dal lake. Plenty of excursion opportunities are possible.
6. There is medium pressure in terms of curriculum/academics. Life is easy in CSE/IT.
7. Not a typical college experience.
8. Wi-Fi and Ultra high-speed Broadband (10 MBps) line is available in hostels.
