And in general, choosing a career would entirely depend on your interest and career aspirations. As per your given information you are doing a Hardware and Networking course and this is entirely different to the Merchant Navy and is completely incomparable.

Are you XII passout! Bare minimum qualification desired for you to become eligible for Btech is 12th with min.60% agreegate in general and 55% in other catagories. You have to apply through IIT JEE. Check out the website http://jee.iitd.ac.in/eligibility.htm for all the further information
