Sneh, Design is an option. Design is a field that is age old and has been evolving every year like science. Sometimes student Artists are too much enamoured by Fine Arts preventing them to look objectively at Design. They must read this http://bit.ly/SXc9GD. Again like science it pays to be at the cutting edge. For e.g. science students do better if they go for CS or IT since that are areas where development is taking place rapidly. Similarly in Design the cutting edge areas are UID/ UXD, 3D Printing, Immersive Technology, Augmented Reality, 3D Projection etc, besides of course Game Design and Animation. At this stage, you may want to understand the creative world and the careers it offers. There are many careers for the creative/ artistic people. Interiors, textile as well as Web Design rely on the same skills - your layout skills and color sense. Journalism also is at this level and relies on your language skills and knowledge of history and current affairs. A little higher perches Graphic Design, Fashion Design, jewellery design, Acting, and Fine Arts which rely on one of your artistic skills - sketching and imagination. At a similar level perches VFX as well as Motion Graphics which rely on one of your artistic skills - Cinematographic skills and imagination. Then come careers like Animation, Film Making, Game Design which rely on multiple talents like your authority over sketching, acting, direction, voice, sound, writing, storytelling and problem solving skills etc. Any extra skill can be used in this. So it turns out to be one of the most challenging as well as satisfying careers. Sure not recommended for the weak hearted. Do remember that digital design careers (e.g. web design, graphics, UI design, animation, vfx, multimedia) give better profits since they can be delivered anywhere in the world and hence may earn in dollars - resulting in better rewards for designers. Firstly your grad percentage will not be an issue at all, it will be considered in the Second stage of admissions, but only a certain weight-age will be given. If you are good else where, it will easily be taken care off.
The PGDM General and PGDM International Business accepts only CAT and GMAT scores. The cutoff of CAT was 75 percentile last year, and that of GMAT was around 600 to 620 for the PGDM General program, and was little less for the International Business.
So you cannot apply to General and International Business programs with the MAT score.
The PGDM Retail Management and PGDM Insurance Business Management accepts CAT, GMAT, XAT, CMAT and MAT scores. The cutoff of CAT and XAT was around 60 percentile. The cutoff of CMAT was around 200 out of 400, but that can vary heavily due to fluctuations in the CMAT difficulty levels every year. The cutoff of MAT is also not high, and you can easily expect a call.
If you are interested in Retail Management and Insurance Business Managment. They are good courses. And if you come here and work hard, you can get better placements than even the best students of PGDM General students.
Anyway, a general suggestion would be whatever scores you have in CAT and XAT, now focus on the upcoming CMAT exam, and try and get above 95 percentile which is not that tough a task. A lot of gates will open up for you.
But then the next hurdle will start, that is of Group Discussions, Essay Writing, Personal Interviews etc. Till CMAT don't think of any of these, but immediately after CMAT start working on your the Second phase of the MBA admissions as explained by me above.
