Kaustubh, There are 2 kinds of careers - based on understanding of theory or based on practice of theory. All right brained activities including sports a& creative career lie in the latter domain. For careers that are based on practice of your skills, degrees become irrelevant and in fact come in your way of acquiring knowledge. All govts across the world have designed structures on how degrees can be provided. These structures for e.g. UGC in India accredit the colleges for following the rules. and these rules stipulate a minimum qualification for the teachers. It is here where the fault line lies. All masters of their arts whether sportsmen, musicians or directors, spend all their time honing their passions in their own ways & learn from other masters in their art. And the people who do not do well in their art end up doing the higher degrees & become teachers in the colleges. Now this means that the best people are left out of the education system. Hence there is a need for studenrs of art to enter mentoring programs to hone their skills. Alternatively they can learn in diplomas which allow for anyone to teach as long as they are good in their art. Now this freedom does make the learner's task difficult as ungoverned academies have to be judged directly by the students. So be careful while choosing a mentor or an institute. You could do well to create a list of places you may want to learn at, whether they are in your city or not. Then go to their websites and research about them, & even call them and talk to them. Try their website for more details. Typically go for a school which offers all the information including faculty on their website. Now shortlist some you want to visit. Do not hesitate to travel - this is about your life and career. After visiting those take a decision for yourself. Even if you have to travel to timbuctoo or chandigarh for that matter, it is important for your life, so do it. As per your query it seems that you wish to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program from top B-schools of India.
So regarding this please remember in order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program you need to be graduate in any field with atleast 50% marks in graduation, plus you need to take various management entrance test like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, etc.
Now coming to IIMs then please remember that each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other.
The process may include:
- Written Ability Test
- Group Discussions (GD)
- Personal Interviews (PI).
Performance in CAT examination is an important component in the admission process.
IIMs may use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.
