Hi Praveen, there are many ways of becoming an automotive engineer.
Any person with Engineering degree/Diploma can become an automotive engineer with a strong base in Science and Mathematics.
As you are already a graduate in Engineering you can further opt for M.E./M.Tech in Automobile engineering colleges which are spread all over India. There are even short/long term courses available.
And along with it, there are different levels concerned like designing, development or manufacturing with automotive. So, it depends on you where do you want to fit in.

As for jobs, automobile manufacturing industries such as TELCO, L&T, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Heldex India, Bajaj Autoand Gabrial employ automotive engineering graduates as Senior Production Engineer, Quality Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, etc.
Many engineers also join defence services of the country. Some even set up own business venture or take up traditional teaching profession.
As for the remuneration, it varies depending on the size of the organizations, profile, qualification, experience, etc.

Hi Priyesh, Petroleum engineering degrees are not very popular in India because of fewer universities offering admissions to petroleum engineering and less awareness.
As for the query, all the esteemed universities accept GATE score for admission in M.Tech courses. There are very few universities which do not accept GATE score, so, it would be advisable to appear for GATE first to enter in good universities for M.Tech.
