As you are working as Maint engineer in a pharma industry, I suppose your job would be to do take care of breakdown and preventive maintenance of the plant machines. Pharma equipments are very sophisticated and of "State of the Art" technology. Most pharma plant also keep sufficient spare machines as the pharma product batches are costly batches and one cannot technically stop a reaction or formulation in between due to mundane problems like triping of an agitator or pump not working etc. This means that a maintenance engineer generally does not have very hard duties as it is in case in industrial chemicals manufacturing plant where contiuous process is followed. Piping & desing will help you only if you have interest in projects and if your existing pharma company is going for an expansion / dversification or if you want to make yourself more eligible for larger manufacturing companiesl like refineries where-in some or the other project work is always continued. Piping design will also make you more suitable for jobs in the middle east countries. So if you plan these then you can go ahead with Piping design. But if you want to remain in the pharma industry only then perhaps doing MBA in Total Quality Management would be better for you.
