Your question seems incomplete. If you want to know about what is .NET, then its a technology platform to learn web application and enterprise application develop.
One suggestion, do learn SQL Server, HTML5, Jquery, CSS along with .NET. This will enable you to develop the entire application.

Dear Arjun,
All languages are just tools. Want to need to learn is how to think logically and then make use of the programming language to apply that logic to solve a problem.
Learning just a problem language doesn't help. Learn surrounding languages , frameworks too. Like if Learning PHP, learn MYSQL, HTML, JQuery etc.
You can start with learning PHP+MYSQL, Java or .NET or Ruby on Rails.

Having gone through the phase i would like to advice you to understand completely that what you are interested in?
