Hi Tanmaya,
First of all I would like congratulate you on getting such a high score on GATE. As you have got a good score on GATE you stand a chance to get admission in some of the good colleges, although IITs would be difficult you can try with NIT, BIT, and DCE etc. To give you more insight I am placing a link below of a similar query which has been answered by various other experts:

Hi Sachin,
Yes, most definitely M.Tech after B.Tech in Mechanical is a good option. Although, you can get good jobs even after B.Tech but to get to the higher levels in your career it is very important to have a Masters degree. This not only gives you exposure but also helps you in getting the best of job opportunities.

Hello vedant, Every state conducts separate admission test for diploma holders for lateral entry.direct admission into the second year. The entrance will be conducted usually when the current first years are writing their exams and the counseling process will be completed in between. Those who have got admission will attend the classes with the current batch students.
Wait for the notification, write the entrance test, qualify with good rank and continue with the discipline with which you have finished your diploma.
