There are 2 ways of selection-
1) Profile Based Calls - Here they call you based on your profile as CAT results are not out by that time. However, the criteria here is that you need a minimum of 85 percentile overall and a sectional of 70 percentile in all sections, else your call becomes invalid. Also, you can get a call based on the GMAT score for which the minimum percentile required is 650.
For profile based calls, SPJIMR closely observes your academics, achievements, extra-curricular activities and relevant work experience.
Now for profile based, even though the cut-off is 85 percentile for CAT, selections are possible only with a 9

Yes, you can apply for CAT 2017 while working in a bank. Coming to points for work experience, individual IIM's have their rating criteria to rate quality and quantity of your work experience. As a thumb rule, people with work experience between 2-3 year get the highest points and points awarded anything more or less than that reduces linearly. A work experience of 6 months or so will not have any significant effect on your composite score but might sway the interview towards work experience rather than academics.
