This will depend on the program you are applying to. Masters programs don't require work experience but MBA programs do. If you are applying for MBA then work experience is compulsory.

If you want to get into business department then you can go for management but if you still want to continue your technical degree then go for B.Tech lateral entry. One thing that is clear that if your branch is mechanical engineering then you can't chance it. I think you have to go in ME B.Tech lateral entry.
