It is good that you are planning to start preparation for GATE from now but I would recommend to focus on your engineering subjects and understand them deeply.
Use NPTEL material for preparation: http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/
Don't to aim for GATE but aim for excellence in all you engineering subjects then you can clear any exam.
You are just starting so you don't need any special books or coaching institutes now and keep following standard text books for your engg. subjects.

To begin, you can go for Certified ethical hacker (CEH) certification to gain good knowledge of this line. My personal openion would be to learn more and more from online communities and involve yourself in some good open source projects related to information security than can help you in gaining practical exposure. As far as courses/certifications are concerned, CEH, CISSP are good.
