MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is a 4½ year programme followed by a year of rotating internship. The 4½ years of medical class room study is divided into 3 phases of 18 months each. Each professional, as it is called, is of 18 months duration and is divided into 3 semesters of 6 months each. The eligibility criteria for Ph.D varies for every institute. However the basic requirement is a masters degree or an equivalent degree in the relevant discipline.
However the cut off percentages vary. Some of the institutes conduct entrance exams and some of them require atleast two research publications for the Ph.D programs. Some also require work experience of a couple of years.
