There is no minimum or maximum age for appearing in SAT.
Instead of age you should have to fulfill following requirements:-

If you are a senior in high school and wish to pursue college education, you are an ideal candidate for the SAT test. Any candidate keen to gain admission in a US college can take the SAT test as there are no SAT test requirements specific to US citizens. The community, school, district or state that you reside in, do not pose any restrictions on the eligibility criteria for SAT.
The SAT is administered worldwide in 175 countries around the world. The test can be taken by anyone who is keen to gain a college degree in the US. There is no restriction on citizenship. If you belong to a country that does not have a test center for SAT, you may have to travel to another in order to take the test. It may be difficult and expensive, but you are allowed to do it. However, you have to check if the schooling or education system in your home country meets the regulations and standards as laid down by College Board. For example, if you are an international candidate from India, you would have to complete 12 years of schooling in India before you meet the SAT test requirements to be able to take the test.
-----> How old should you be?
There is no age limit to take the SAT. Ideally you should be in high school, but it has been observed that a number of 7th or 8th graders also take the test and score well. However, the SAT is a test meant for admission to colleges and it loses relevance when taken too early or too late. There have been instances where children as young as twelve have taken the test and scored high. However, such cases are rare and the children in question cannot be considered to be anything less than geniuses. SAT instructors take the test as and when required to be able to provide better training to SAT aspirants. A maximum or minimum age is not one of the SAT test requirements.

As far as SAT test requirements are concerned, it does not matter if your grades are not high. However, your college application may take a hit in case your grades are not up to the mark. The colleges do not look at only the SAT scores but take the entire application into consideration when taking a decision for admission.
