Yes, there are other institute specific entrances in order to pursue M.Tech other than GATE. But, it would be advisable to opt for M.Tech after clearing GATE exam as it opens more doors of esteemed universities such as IITs, NITs, IIITs etc.

Canada is one of the finest study destination to pursue masters degree, please remember in order to pursue masters degree from universities in Canada, you need to have relevant undergraduate degree from recognized university with good academic record preferably 60%-70% plus in graduation, plus you need to take below mentioned tests:
1. GRE.
2. TOEFL or IELTS.
