You are doing it in a right way. BCA is no option for you.
If you want to do programming, just focus on programming part of your syllabus. You should learn Assembly language as well as other hardware interaction languages like HDL etc.
In today's scenario a great number of software developers are from ETC background. Because they know hardware and its functioning very well and can program accordingly.
