There are many short term courses that one can pursue in various fields depending on your area of interest but if you are looking for the courses related to History, then there aren't many options to choose from but you can always look ahead to pursue higher education in this field to increase your chances to get a good career in History. You can't save an year however, if you start the process now you could utilize your coming year for getting good college. Check out a good coaching and take counselling. Alternative option could only be to opt for Part Time MBA.
CAT entrance is commencing in Oct'10. Even there are many other entrance during Q4 in 2010 including MAT, SNAP, FMS, IIFT etc. You can write these as well depending on your preference.

To Pursue MBA program from IIT you will have to take JMET test. For that minimum score should be 60 % marks in aggregate or 6.75/10 CGPA in Bachelor's degree in any branch of Engineering/ Technolog / Architecture/ Pharmacy/ Agriculture Engg. (minimum 4 years after 10+2) or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, Electronic Science etc.

Although, both Technology & Management offers bright future & good pay packages but I would say that you should always opt for a program which you feel is best for you and for which you are passionate about. As you have already developed a taste for HR field my suggestion would be you should go ahead for your MBA program.
At the same time you should keep in mind that an MBA program would be beneficial only if you will do it from a decent regular B-School as a correspondence program holds no value in once career growth especially for freshers.
