Before answering this question i would first suggest you to think about your decision once again, as mechanical and electrical engineering deals in design, analysis, construction and maintenance of various machine systems so it will be a change of field for you.
Though scope will increase in automation and automobile etc. in which study of both the discipline of science is required from a person.
Now to answer your question, the basic eligibility to pursue masters in Mechanical or Electrical is:
Candidates are only eligible to apply if they have bachelor's degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or any other equivalent branch of engineering.
Aspirant must have studied Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as subjects.
Some of the institutes also conducts entrance examination for admission.

Yes there are various courses related to Computer software and application it generally depends upon your taste of interest.
Some of the certification options are:
Java/J2EE - The server side software development of web is mostly done by this most secure language option. Most of the banks in India and abroad implement their web applications using Java/J2EE only.
.NET - This is among most popular languages which are direct counterparts of Java. These are mainly used for light weight application development on the server side and client side. .NET is also easy to master compared to the long Java Library.
The other options for the courses include, i am listing most prominent ones from job point of view:
Oracle/Mysql/DB2/DBA - This is one of the most reliable course options but you will not get any work of software development on its basis, yet you can continue doing it if you have interest in DBMS.
CCNA/MCSE - These networking certifications can employ you as a network engineer and again even in the recession period these were the most reliable career options, if not most exciting.
Between java & .NET i would suggest .NET and you being from ECE branch, Networking courses like CCNA should be easier for you.

Following are the course options to pursue Law as a career.
*B.A. L.L.B: This is a 5-year course and the students can pursue this course after passing Class 12.
One must have to pass out class 12th in any discipline from recognized university board.
One should also have to qualify entrance exam conducted at national level.
Many universities/colleges have their own rules and regulations and conduct their own exams for taking admission in this course.
*L.L.B: This is a 3-year course, open for graduates.
Candidate must be completed his/her graduation in any discipline and also have to qualify entrance exam to get admission in various India's colleges/universities.
*LLM: For this course you should have to complete LLB degree from any recognized university.
There are exams like CLAT,LSAT , You need to clear these exams then only you are eligible for Law admission in any college .
Eligibilty for CLAT:
To be eligible to appear in CLAT-2014, a candidate should have obtained a Higher Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board .with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC and ST candidates) and should be below 20 years of age as on 1st July 2014 (22 years in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates)
Candidates who are appearing in March/April, 2015 or have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test. However, such candidates are required to have passed the qualifying examination at the time of their admission and must be able to submit proofs in support of their claims. No provisional admission shall be provided to those candidates who are not submitting the result of the qualifying examination (i.e. 10+2) at the time of admission.

I cannot assure the exact pattern but I can help you with all that you need to prepare. So starting with media I would suggest you to go through the newspapers everyday and make a note of all the good articles or important news that you come across.
You have to mug up the punch lines of various good and famous brands and also their Brand ambassadors, mug up the punch lines of various good news channels because they might ask it.
Also, if possible try and read few books on GK and Current affairs, if you want you can refer to Manorama year Book which is a nice book for GK and Current affairs.
Apart from all these you also have to practice a lot on writing articles because they might give you any topic to write or a picture that you need to describe so you need to write it in a creative manner and for that you need to think out of the box and read some good movie critics and their style or pattern of writing.
As preparing for journalism read about the history of India and world for eg: when the first newspaper was printed.
Other than these you may also prepare on reading comprehension, grammar, logical reasoning etc.
At the end I would say that the entrance is not that difficult and you can clear it easily and the interview depends on your caliber.
