Both could lead you into exciting careers depending on how good you are and how good you are at implementing your knowledge. It depends on how well you have studied in your UG, and PG. I mean, how easily you can gasper the concepts. If your UG & PG courses are irrelevant and you are writing NET based on your PG subject, then you need approximately 1 year for NET preparations. If your degree & PG are similar and you are attending NET based on the same streams, then 6 months of preparation is enough. But, you have to be much focused, prepare notes by yourself, and study without diverting your mind.

It would be better if you choose B.Sc. And if engineering is your aim, then prepare for it while pursuing your B.Sc. Degree and give the exam again next year or otherwise, focus on B.Sc. And start preparing for post graduation exams in your second year of B.Sc.
