At IIT Kharagpur, students are able to sign up for minors and electives outside their main branch. To complete a minor, students must successfully complete a minimum of 6 subjects from another department, have a CGPA of 7.5 or higher and do not have any backlogs from the 5th semester. To continue in the programme, students must get a CGPA higher than 8.0. You choose 3–4 core subjects and finish the programme with a project or term paper. A CGPA of 7.0 and no backlog reports after the first year are needed for micro-specialization.

New ranks are established for each branch at IIT Kharagpur according to the JEE Advanced results and number of seats. Most Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) students can expect to be in the top 300. It's common for branches like Electrical and Mechanical to be around ranks 1000–2000. These rankings are determined in the JoSAA Counselling process and may change a little based on category and demand.

For admission to BArch at IIT Kharagpur, you do need to take the JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is only open to those who first pass the JEE Main. The final selection of students happens through JoSAA Counselling. You cannot be admitted to BArch at IIT Kharagpur unless you pass JEE Advanced.

In order to study in IIT Kharagpur's BArch programme, you must first clear JEE Advanced and participate in JoSAA Counselling. If you wish to be eligible, you must score 75% in core subjects in Class 12. Your JEE Advanced rank and assigned seat are what determine your choice of institute. It may be tough, but it offers plenty of valuable opportunities to architecture trainees.
