Its apparently clear that IT has better package than EC, and also life is not easy in EC as most of the people are toppers and it is relative grading which adds more pain. Even though you work hard to maintain your CGPA ( Cumulative Grade Point Average) people with the same CGPA in IT make it to far better companies than you. These are the hard learnt truths and I am passing it on to you.
Coming to the better side of EC, if you want to learn something interesting and make it work in real you should go for EC. There is wide scope for research and higher studies in EC, there is lot of research going on on cutting edge technologies in EC.

I believe you should be more concerned about the branch you would like to choose primarily, your scores are decent and you may get a seat in one of the NITs. Please refer to this link for the closing ranks http://blog.oureducation.in/top-nit-colleges-in-india-under-jee-main/
I believe you will get a decent rank and hence try to choose your college based on your choice of branch of engineering, and other facilities of the college.
