All IIMs go by the CAT score. The basic educational background, is not a matter of great concern. If you take the IIMs, most of the students are from IITs. There is a false perception, that students with a Commerce background, get a head start. If you are looking at IIM (Ahmedabad), you need to score a minimum of 99 percentile in the CAT exam to stand a realistic chance of getting selected. You can also look at other IIMs and get to know their cut-off percentile. The percentile obviously, will vary from year to year.

There are certain colleges who admit students without any entrance exam (MAT / CAT etc. ) on the basis of management quota and institute specific admission details.

The cutoff for 2015 admission was 73 percentile for both CAT (2014) and ATMA (March 2015 exam). For CMAT
( February 2015) the cutoff was score of 181 and above.
For 2016-2018 admission the tentative date for declaring cut-off has not yet been decided. CAT and ATMA cutoff will be in the range of 75-80 percentile.
