What qualities and skills should one possess to become a freelance writer?

Firstly, you have to be a good writer to become a freelancer. Writing can be done by anyone but that doesn't make him/her a writer, leave alone being good at it. Becoming a professional freelance writer requires a lot of talent and hard work. You have to create and sell your work all by yourself. So, what all is required to be a freelancer? 1. The most basic thing to start with is command over language. His/her writing should consist of perfect grammar and correct spellings. In addition, creativity and imagination is what engages a reader. A writer should know how to play with words. 2. A freelance writer must be professional in his/her approach. This means being able to deal with clients, evaluate their needs and produce the required work on time. This is what makes you a reliable source and builds a positive image. 3. A freelancers’ career is not always a smooth one, it goes through rough patches. You need to accept rejections and days with no work. Just be positive and keep looking forward. 4. To be a good freelancer you must have marketing and networking skills. A writer should be able to project and market his/her work. The ability to persuade the client that your article or news piece is what that fits their print/online platform the best. 5. Research and reading goes hand in hand when you are a writer. A freelancer or freelance writer is self-employed and may not be committed to a particular employer but it demands high quality and skills. Freelancing is not as fancy as it may look.

A writer needs to be a person of respectable intellect and extraordinary control over the language he uses to write. The language and diction have to be good along with the grammar and sentence structure. The style has to be lucid and engaging which keeps the readers on the pages. To be a freelance writer, one has to keep on writing like blogs and books. The freelance writer should get in touch with the publishers, media houses and magazine editors and get the article/works assessed in terms of readiness to be a freelance writer in the industry where the work gets paid and the worst is kicked out. We need to be clear about the fact that a freelance writer shall not be a full-time writer. Freelance means that writing can be a side by side occupation or it can be a full-time work but not with one single publisher or media house. Freelancing keeps the writer free from one engagement but keeps busy on various assignments.
