What role does a PR play in crisis management of a firm?

Hello, The utmost function of public relations is to make its client’s image in the society. A public relations company has good media relations which becomes very helpful for their clients when there arises any crisis in the firm. The PRs share the insights of the problem with the media journalist's which makes a journalist aware of the happening. A PRO (Public Relations Officer) uses his terms with journalist and holds the power to stop the news to be disseminated in the media or if the news has already been shared he/she asks the journalist to publish an apology note or write the reasons for the mishappening which helps to restore the image in the public for their client. They uses there best of skills to manipulate the situation in favour of their clients and give them the constant support they need at that time. Being a normal person you can't make a journalist aware about the crisis and can't manage to get rid of the defaming that has already been done. A PR specialist makes PR plans ready which help clients gain the image back in front of the society.

Crisis management is a critical organizational function. if you fail to handle it well, it can result in serious harm to stakeholders, losses for an organisation, or end the organisation. Public relations people are an integral part of crisis management teams.Public Relations (or PR) is a field concerned with maintaining public image for high-profile people, commercial businesses and organizations, non-profit associations or programs. Public relations (PR) concerns professions working in public message shaping for the functions of communication, community relations, crisis management, customer relations, employee relations, government affairs, industry relations, investor relations, media relations, mediation, publicity, speech-writing, and visitor relations. PR can be used to build rapport with employees, customers, investors, voters, or the general public.Almost any organisation that has a stake in how it is portrayed in the public arena employs some level of public relations. There are a number of related disciplines falling under the banner of Corporate Communications, such as Analyst Relations, Media Relations, Investor Relations, Internal Communications and Labor Relations. PR professionals focus on building relationships that help to establish rapport with public. Public Relations professionals must know how to write clearly, speak clearly, and think analytically. These skills are necessary because in the field of PR there is constant communication between professionals and their public. PR professionals also have to think critically so that they can come up with a resolution.

Typically, the PR department will be informed of possible crises. PR staff will play a role in helping to manage the incident, including -Advising on the strategic approach to take -Identifying the key audiences to be communicated with -Drafting support materials statements, questions and answers, and briefing documents. Ideally, the PR department will be involved in three stages: -Before the incident has become public to advise on handling communication -As the incident becomes public handling press and media attention and putting any communication plan into action -To support communications following an incident ongoing communication with key groups about the organisations actions, what is being done to ensure the incident does not happen again and so on. -The earlier the PR department is made aware of a potential incident, the better prepared the team can be to manage attention from the press and media and key audiences, including staff.
