Which branch of engineering is the best and which is definitely going to grow in the coming years?

As we are aware that the world is fast moving towards automation and that there will be a lot of field that would require 'intelligence' in machines. So, keeping that into perspective, fields like computer science and information technology will be growing upwards in the coming years. To add to that, there will be subjects like machine learning, data analytics, internet of things etc. That will become a part of the curriculum. It is imperative that any engineering aspirant understands that a stream that does not have components which enable him to learn about automation and artificial intelligence is going to face the music. Therefore there should be a clear emphasis on pursuing these"subjects" as part of the streams one is pursuing. Aspirants also need to be wary of the fact that routine coding jobs and knowledge of different languages like Java, c etc is going to witness a downward trend. Full stack developers might retain their jobs but those who are mere into coding have lost jobs and are struggling. So, data is the key to the future. Hence, make your decisions accordingly. Hello, Engineering is necessary for the technical, industrial and profitable growth of the people and also for the nation. Every branch of engineering has its own value and growth. There is no branch that could go without scope or value. They are growing in one or the other way. In the upcoming years, Computer Science engineering and mechatronics is expected to have more scope due to the rapid increase in automation. Computer science engineering includes every aspect of the operations of computers without which nothing can be done. While mechatronics is really important for the operation of robots and machinery. The automation is due to the robots and the latest technology improvements which could be dealt with mechatronics engineering. If you consider the field of automobile engineering, it is getting developed in the field of self-driving cars and cars with alternative fuel (is under process). So this field also has a bright future. Now a days the conservation of energy is essential as the fossil fuels are getting depleted and so EEE engineers would have a good scope in the field of alternative sources of energy. Many innovations are created in the field of engineering that is in all of its other branches. So, there is no branch to be said that it is better than the other and yes, every branch of engineering is getting developed in one way or another.

See, we are going into an era of information technology revolution and the automation of everything around us. With Tesla cars, you can drive from home to office without even operating the car and that too safely. All the branches are at their apex in every field and technological advances are too fluid. Still, one thing can be said for sure that all the branches have a lot of fields to unravel and no branch shall lose its colors over time. In terms of time, mechanical and civil are basis and evergreen branches and have been with us over the ages whereas some branches as electrical come later and finally comes the era of Technological advances that include electronics and computer science. Also now we have been encountering the interdisciplinary studies and that has diverted the full course of engineering and technology. So, we can see that all branches are best in their respective fields and all are definitely going to grow in the future. Still, if we go to the areas then automation and interconnecting of devices, etc. are the fields that definitely the ones to go.

According to me, almost all the branches will see a tremendous growth as technology keeps on advancing further. But, there are few I would like to talk about. Computer Science is the branch which is the newest and is growing at an impressive rate. I am pretty sure that this field will keep needing more engineers in coming future. Also, there will be pretty good opportunities for research as well. Same goes for ECE and EEE. They grow as the technology grows. The branch which may undergo major change will be mechanical (automobile) as world is moving towards electric cars with Tesla leading the mission. So, there will be great opportunities in this field too. Then, the one branch which may go from zero to hero is Energy and Environmental Engineering. As time will pass need for clean energy will keep on increasing as fossil fuels are depleting at a high rate. So, it will provide great opportunities for research as well as jobs. But this change will take some time. Maybe 20-30 years or more (can't say). But in the long run the branch will have a great value. So, all branches are growing but at a different pace. But the need of engineers will not increase - the need for quality engineers will increase!
