Well, all the branches of engineering are equally good and have good job opportunities. I feel that the selection of a branch should be based on the aspirant's interest and skills. One should focus on the pros and cons of each branch and make a wise decision as it will help him/her to build up a rewarding career.

Also there are certain engineering fields that are not that famous but can surely land you in a good job with a fat package such as OFFSHORE Engineering as mentioned by Mohit Dhingra97889
I would request everyone to share more such engineering streams.

All the branches in engineering are of same importance and it's quite enough to achieve goal.you can go for any of the branch.the only thing is that you should show your zeal in that branch.
And Now the question is - which one most popular? Then, I will suggest you to choose mechanical engineering if you are interested on it. Mechanical engineering is evergreen branch. There is always good scope and opportunity where as other engineering programs depends on the market situation

I would say Mechanical, Civil,Computers,Electronics have been the traditional favourites. But if the government opens FDI inMulti-brand retail Manufacturing of Defense and Aerospace to reduce the import bill, Aerospace engineering would see lot of traction in the future.
Supply Chain related courses like Industrial engineering and Management will become popular for the retail format. Everyone can see the boom in the Health care sector. Healthcare related engineering courses like bio-medical engineering and Medical electronics should also see surging demand in the future.

Its about what you like, branch doesnot matter, what matters is your hard work and college you study from. I said college because good colleges give better exposure.
If you have to do engineering just for degree then go for distance and work in the same field simuntaneously even as a trainee to start with.
