Education: Both the branches have the almost same number of tough and easy subjects. But in IT when it comes to practicals, you strain your brain, whereas in mechanical it is less brain more body. Employment: Like education, you are paid for how efficiently you use your brain in IT but in mechanical, you are paid for how efficiently you make your machine running and doing a job for you. Of course, you need brain even here but not paid. (Opportunities: are always there for both the fields. You might be misled seeing the buzz around IT nowadays but mechanical is always an evergreen area with a huge scope. Every day, you see a new car or a bike on which many crores of people are traveling.
Growth: Since there are more opportunities, there are more companies coming in IT which means you have huge competition. You need to upgrade continuously with the latest advancements and apply those skills to beat others. Which means you are responsible for your growth. In Mechanical, it is more like a team and the impact you create as a team. You may be working alone but your daily activities need more people to interact giving you more chance to learn. Future: With a greater number of internet users, I mean, knowledge users for mobiles, computers, gadgets, there will be many problems too like data security, data management and data storing and development of such devices. This is exactly similar to population growth, with more people you get less water, less food and little space for the person. Considering our working-age ends at 50, for next 20 -30 years, there is a better scope for improvement in IT. Similarly, making nation energy sustainable, designing new engines for motor vehicles, manufacturing smart products, nothing can stop all of a sudden. There is no such trend of dropping also.
Salary: Agreed, one place where IT beats mechanical is this. You might get lesser pays or even when paid high, you will be posted in factories far from cities.
