Yes, you need to clear CAT for admission to IIMs. Else, you don't have any other options. CAT is generally held somewhere in November, so you have a lot of time to prepare for it.

Few pointers which the B Schools take into account -
Academic Record - School, Graduation etc. CAT Score - While there is no cut off for CAT score, but there are sectional cut offs which are never public knowledge. Typically a CAT percentile above 95 is typically a pretty good one. Extra - Curricular - What extra curricular activity were pursued by the individual. To get a call from IIM, your CAT score plays a major part. After that, some other things like caste, work ex, class 10th and 12th, graduation marks, etc., are also considered.

Every student dreams of getting selected in top college for their studies and IIMS are no exception. IIMS are premiere B-schools and therefore one need to secure 99 Percentile to get a call from IIM. Along with this they give weightage to-
    1) GD
    2) PI
    3) Academics
    4) Work experience
And after these parameters are considered then student is finally enrolled for PGDM course in IIM. So other factors like this are also important therefore consider them as well. Good luck.

First, a good CAT score. If you clear the CAT cut off, then you have to go through a group discussion or a written ability test, and then Personal Interview which is very important. Also, your past academic records must be good.

CAT score is one of the factors for admission in IIMS. It is not the only factor. However, there is cut-throat competition and you need to score very high for getting into IIMs. Other than CAT score, What-PI score is also considered.

CAT is absolutely important to seek admission in any IIM as they themselves conduct this exam with the sole purpose of taking admissions there. So, it's a must.

After clearing CAT you will be shortlisted and you will get calls based on your score. There are other rounds like GD/PI, etc. in the selection process.
