Is there any difference between BHM & B.Sc in hotel management?
-
Hi,
There is not much difference between BHM and B.Sc in Hospitality Management. Basically, all the central and State Government IHMs provide a degree of B.Sc, which is recognised by National Counsel of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Colleges that are affiliated by other universities such as Mumbai University, DY Patlil University, Kolkata university etc. provide a BHM Degree.
The core subjects always remain same whether it is a BHM or B.Sc. There might be some difference in language, PD or additional subjects which depends on the university. -
Yes, you can see a difference in fees and course duration. Good luck.

B.Sc. Hotel management is traditional graduation, not a full pledged hotel management course. But BHM is full pledged course and it is specially designed for hotel management. Of course BHM has a better scope as after doing it you can work in service industry, tourism sector and even airlines. LPU School of Hotel Management and Tourism is among India's best Hotel Management and Tourism colleges that grooms students through industry endorsed curriculum and intensive service oriented practicals with industry exposure in excellent infrastructure. The school provides students with simulation labs, aviation labs, restaurant training labs, b...more

B.Sc in hospitality and hotel administration is generally offered by Central Govt. IHMs and other institutes affiliated to NCHMCT offer courses of 3-years duration, while
BHM is mostly offered by private institutes affiliated to state universities and is of 4-years duration.
Apart from this, there is no such major difference as both the degrees are equally recognised by industry and for other purposes. -
BHM is generally an AICTE approved degree which is a 4 year course, while B.Sc in HM is a 3 year course. The terminology difference is only with the AICTE approval. But, the core subjects in both the courses are same and more over the industry does not bother to check whether the student has done BHM or B.Sc. If the student is smart enough, he/she may grab a good job form any of the above mentioned courses. But, as far as I have noticed, no university offer B.Sc in Hotel Management, instead they are offering B.Sc in Hospitality management (again AICTE is the key factor here).

Basically, there is no major difference between BHM and B.Sc in any university. The student gets benefit in the future, because this certificate helps the student to move any BHM related stream of jobs and at the same time, students can choose the streams in B.Sc, once they are done with the study. Finally, it is good to have a certificate with dual courses for the better career.
