You need to specify that you are asking for which programme as eligibility of each programmes differs. For some programmes LPU NEST is mandatory Like, engineering, hotel management, Law, Design etc. -

LPU NEST (NATIONAL ENTRANCE & SCHOLARSHIP TEST) is totally depends upon the programme you are choosing, for some programme it is mandatory for some it is not. LPU NEST has MCQ's and No negative marking so there are chances that you will score good, marks scored in LPU NEST can also help you in fetching scholarship of the respected programme. -
The writing of the LPU NEST is mandatory or not depends upon the course in which you are taking admission. LPU offers more than 150 courses and each course have its own eligibility pattern.
