Entrance Test followed by,
Section A : The first set of question paper shall include 50 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each on teaching and research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, language, writing and analytical skills, and contemporary issues relevant to research and higher education. It shall be of one hour duration.
Section B: The question paper under Section – B shall be devoted to the advanced knowledge of the subject concerned and that of the specialization under the subject concerned. It shall have a weightage of 100 marks out of which 50 marks will be assigned to 50 multiple choice (objective type) questions of one mark each and a set of subjective types of questions having a weightage of another 50 marks. The question paper under Section B shall be of two hours duration.
Interview : The candidates who qualify the Entrance Test including the candidates who have been exempted from appearing in the Entrance Test, shall be required to prepare a synopsis of the proposed research and submit it to the Department/Faculty/Center concerned

The eligibility criteria to avail these scholarships are:
Student must be living in India.
Student must begin undergraduate or graduate study in 2012 at a college/university listed in the TOEFL destinations Directory.
Student must have a GPA of 80 or higher on 100 point scale or 3.0 or higher on 4.0 scale.

IGNOU OPENMAT (Indira Gandhi National Open University OPEN) is an entrance test for candidates who aspire to get admission to programmes related to management. This test is conducted in February and August.
Eligibility Criteria:-
*Candidates who have completed their graduation in any stream with 50% marks are eligible to appear for OPENMAT.
*Candidates belonging to reserved category can apply if they have a minimum score of 45%.
*Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree along with three years of experience in managerial, professional or supervisory experience can appear for this exam.
*Those who have passed State Level Test or CAT or MAT entrance exam for management programmes are not required to appear for OPEN MAT.
Application forms for OPENMAT ENTRANCE TEST –form 1 can be purchased from any of the IGNOU branches across the country. It is also available in all of the regional branches of IGNOU. and also through online.
Important Dates:-
Date of First Entrance Exam is by end of February, 2012

Hi Neelam, as per your query I would say that GATE in Engineering is considered as one of the most prestigious entrance exams of the country. The test is carried out jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology for admission to Masters in Technology (M.Tech) post graduate program. GATE is administered by these top technology institutes coming under the Department of Higher Education and National Coordination Board. Most of the institutes also conduct a personal interview round.
It would be advisable to go for GATE exam as there are very few colleges accepting M.Tech students without GATE.
Students spend months to prepare for the exam. However, to secure a seat it is really important that you get your ground rules right as it tests you on your basics. To get high percentile in GATE exam one has to prepare rigorously.
