You have not mentioned your location preference. However, you can opt for self preparation and IIT coaching definitely helps.
Preparation for SCRA must start in the early stage. You must make a habit of reading newspaper and collecting GK questions. For different paper, different planning is required. For example:
Current Affairs: Read "The Hindu" Newspaper, Listen to DD News, Magazine: Chronicle / CSR /India today. Year book for example: Manorama Year Book / Upkar year book GK book: Example TMH book-- Selective study.
Now come to paper I and II subject which play a very important role in the written test for Maths: read all books related to IIT / AIEEE and do lot of problems as you can. Good command over maths is always an advantage. As in SCRA maths is of 200 marks. For Physics: read all books related to IIT / AIEEE, mainly follow H.C Verma (both volume). Chemistry: read all books related to IIT / AIEEE and refer three different books for physical, organic and inorganic sections- for physical read P. Bahadur and for organic chemistry read I.L.Final volume-I and for inorganic read J.D.Lee. For English: Vocabulary: Word Power made Easy by Norman Lewis, English Grammar: Read standard books and magazines.
The most important step before start is to go through SCRA Previous year papers. Read thoroughly and vigorously for the last 2-3 months as most probably you would not be having any exam in those two months.

Each KPSC notified job for which you need to give an exam will have its own individual eligibility criteria with regard to age, experience and educational qualifications. However, there are certain general criteria, too, which are mandatory for making such applications.
The first and main requirement is that you should be a citizen of India. Others who can apply are candidates who are Subjects of Nepal/Subjects of Bhutan/Tibetans who have migrated to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India/ Persons of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda and United Tanzanian Republic (erstwhile Tanganyika and Zanzibar) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Secondly, the candidate must be a person of good character.
