Well, if you have appeared for JEE Mains and got a good score, you can drop out and can apply for NITs. Instead of going to some last ranked NIT, I prefer you to stick with the current Institute you are studying at present and complete the B.Tech. Later if you wish you can prepare for higher studies and get admission in NITs or IITs for your PG.

As you have scored 72 percentile in JEE Mains, so it will be a little bit difficult for you to get admission in BIT Sindri with this score. GATE is an examination to test your technical knowledge in a particular field of study. For robotics, you can choose computer Science and robotics or only computer Science, electronics engineering, robotics engineering etc. If you don't have any financial problems, then you can go abroad for robotics engineering.

As your son has got 7120 ews rank in JEE Mains with 94.95 percent marks, so he is eligible to participate in the counselling process. You should apply for lower and middle order nits like NIT Patna, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Bhopal, IIIT Bhubaneswar, etc. Better to apply for all the nits available in the list.
