The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
AICTE is the regulatory and development authority in the field of engineering and technical education(Pharmacy , Hospitality , Management etc.) in India . AICTE has power to give and cancel approval for engineering, hospitality, Pharmacy and management colleges.
But engineering, management, hospitality, pharmacy courses, conducted by universities including state / central, deemed / private university does not require AICTE approval.This is because universities are considered as above of AICTE.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India is a statutory body set up by the Indian Union government in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 under Ministry of Human Resource Development, and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education.
UGC is the governing body for universities. UGC Guidelines are applicable for colleges (Autonomous) and Universities , to start and function such institutions.
UGC Approval is mandatory for Universities and various departments. Besides UGC also providing Financial Assistance to universities to meet the expenditure.
