I predicted 3 months ago that CGL18 preliminary exam can't be conducted before October. Yes, you heard it right friends, its October or probably November.
Reasons:
SSC decides the vendor (assuming 15 days from today)
SSC sets the paper for CPO and labs are booked (1 month)
CPO admit cards are out
CPO gets conducted. Papers for CGL are set
Admit cards are out
I don't think you are unlucky enough to get first day first shift ( assume you will be somewhere in the middle)
All in all not less than 3 months delay can be expected. BUT
Don't sit back and relax!
My advice is, gird up your loins as competition is increasing leaps and bounds. Besides, you will have to beat the cheaters also (that's SSC for you.)

As far as CSE is concerned, Placements and internships are very good. The highest Stipend was offered by GS I. e INR. 75k and the highest package was by Arcesium I. e INR. 34 lacs per annum. A large number of student receive PPO from companies like GS, JP Morgan, Amazon, SanDisk etc. Top packages are INR. 34 lac, INR. 27 lacs and lacs 22 lac by Arcesium, Amazon and GS respectively. Others offer between 10 to INR. 20 lac. Some are below INR. 10 lac too. There are many companies in super dream tier coming to PEC like Microsoft INR. 39 LPA, Amazon INR. 27 LPA, Salesforce 30 LPA, GS 22 LPA, D-Shaw 34 LPA and others with packages from INR. 10 LPA - INR. 20 LPA. Companies like Microsoft, JP Morgan, Amadeus, Samsung, Cypress, Ascentex, SanDisk offer both Placements and Internships.
