Domestic Tourist Visits (DTVs) to the States/Union Territories (UTs) grew by 15.5 percent y-o-y to 1.65 billion (provisional) during 2016 with the top 10 States/UTs contributing about 84.2 percent to the total number of DTVs, as per Ministry of Tourism. The travel & tourism sector in India accounted for 8 per cent of the total employment opportunities generated in the country in 2017, providing employment to around 41.6 million people during the same year. International hotel chains are increasing their presence in the country, as it will account for around 47 percent share in the Tourism & Hospitality sector of India by 2020 & 50 percent by 2022.
